More praise for Rooney

Posted by unitedfanatic on September 10, 2009

Following the comments made by Sir Alex Ferguson, Fabio Capello, Alex McLeish, and Gary Neville, it is now Sir Bobby Charlton who has heaped praises on the Manchester United striker and deemed him important for club and country.

“Wayne Rooney is a very important person for club and country,” said Charlton. “I think United and England are very lucky to have someone of his character and ability. He is always pleased to listen to you and pick up any advice and help he can. Wayne has great ambitions and he wants to be the best and will ensure he does everything to achieve that. From England’s point of view we have suffered from inconsistency for a good 20 to 30 years.”

He added that Wazza is an irreplaceable part of England’s ambitions. “But we are getting a consistent look to our game now under Fabio Capello. If the team continue to perform well and Wayne is also key to that, then I think we can start thinking about success again at international level. I don’t worry about talking about Wayne like this or the fact that people see him as so vital for England these days, because he is a big lad, a strong character and can handle the pressure.”

On the much debated topic of Wazza bettering his record, he said, “I would really have no problems if Wayne eventually got beyond 50. There are a lot of goals to come from him”

Here’s a quick comparison

Goals for United(Apps)        Goals for England(Apps)

Wayne Rooney                      102(243)                                  24(55)

Sir Bobby Charlton                249(758)                                  49(106)

Turning just 24 in about a month’s time, Rooney sure has his best years ahead of him. So here’s looking forward to the world cup 2010 at South Africa already! Here’s how he scored in last night’s World Cup qualifier against Croatia to contribute to England’s Qualification for the finals.
